While many teams have dared to investigate during the day or even bravely stay overnight, activity has almost always been guaranteed. From shadowy figures standing in the corner, to voices being heard from the jail cells, paranormal experts are cautioned to be prepared!

Old Lavaca County Jail Location History

The Old Lavaca County Jail is a historic jail located in Hallettsville, Texas, USA. The jail was built in 1885and operated until 2005. It is now a museum that offers guided tours to visitors. It was one of the oldestoperating jails in Texas.

The Old Lavaca County Jail was designed by Eugene T. Heiner, a prominent architect in Texas in the late 19th century. It was built using locally quarried limestone and features a Romanesque Revival style with Gothic elements, such as pointed arches and decorative stone carvings.

The jail was originally used to house inmates for Lavaca County, and it served as the county jail until 1974. The jail had a maximum capacity of 24 prisoners and housed both male and female inmates. The jail also included a jailer's residence, which was located on the second floor.

In 1976, the Old Lavaca County Jail was added to the National Register of Historic Places. In 2005, the jailclosed its doors due to its outdated facilities and was subsequently converted into a museum. Today, visitors can tour the jail and see the original cells and living quarters, as well as exhibits about the history of the jailand the criminal justice system in Texas.

The Old Lavaca County Jail is considered a significant example of late 19th-century architecture and is a popular tourist attraction in Hallettsville. Its history provides a glimpse into the state's criminal justice system and the harsh conditions that inmates endured in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Paranormal History

The Haunted Old Lavaca County Jail in Hallettsville is known to be a popular spot for paranormalinvestigators and enthusiasts, and there have been many reports of paranormal activity over the years. Some visitors claim to have experienced strange sounds, cold spots, and even apparitions of former inmates and guards.

There are several stories and legends associated with the haunted jail that contribute to its reputation as a haunted location. For example, there is a story of a female inmate who was wrongly accused of murder and committed suicide by hanging herself in her cell. It is said that her ghost still haunts inside the jail, and some visitors have reported hearing her screams or seeing her apparition.

There is also a story of a former sheriff who was murdered in the jail, and his ghost is said to haunt the building as well. Visitors have reported hearing footsteps or seeing a shadowy figure in the sheriff's office.

In the yard adjacent to the jail were the gallows of the jail where they did public hangings. 

Behind The Scenes

Although many paranormal teams are unable to stay the night, our ghost hunting beauties and paranormal experts braved the challenge with an overnight investigation! Even our ghost host didn't expect to hear voices in the kitchen during the snack breaks. The energy here is not like any that we have experienced before but it was an overall incredible journey!
